Newspaper research

In my research, I found out that local newspaper have specific conventions like: reporting on local news, events, advertising local businesses, colleges and schools open days and so on. They also use coloured and high mega pixel images. I also found out that all the newspaper I research had mastheads, logo, dateline, headline, adverts and photographs with caption.
After researching and looking at newspapers, I noticed that the title of the newspaper was mostly at the top right side of the paper, I also noticed that the main story would take up most of the page. I noticed that almost all newspaper front pages juxtaposed the story on their front pages. For example South London Press has a story about someone that was shot dead by a hitman and then they have another story about the fall of a night club and then at the bottom section sport. They juxtapose these stories in order to draw in different audience because they know that not every one will be interested in reading about the fall of a night club or the latest news about sport. So in conclusion, by including a variety of stories on their front covers, newspapers aim to offer their wide target audience different choices.
I am using media technologies like the internet to research information about local newspaper. I used www.google.com to research newspaper front pages and their websites. I found out that both the newspaper and their websites have similar layout. During my research, i watched videos on www.youtube.com which gave me more of an idea on how newspapers should be designed. youtube was hugely helpful and useful in terms of distributing, showcasing and sharing my media product with other people and getting their feedback which is known as Media 2.0. It also allowed me to watch tutorial on how to use the media technologies that i needed to be familiar with like potoshop and so on.
