Research

In my A2 Advanced Portfolio I decided to create the first two pages of a local newspaper together with a radio advertisement and hyperlinked pages from the papers website.
The reason I chose this is because the genre and the skills which I would need to produce this assignment is different to the ones I used when I produced a classical music magazine for my foundation portfolio assignment.
Research: A tabloid is a newspaper, in small format, which gives the news in condensed form with the use of illustrations and sensational exaggerated material.
I’ll be making a local newspaper and in journalism, local news refers to news coverage of events in a local context which would not normally be of interest to those of other localities, or otherwise be of national or international scope.

Generally, local newspapers share news and inform the local residents of a particular residential area on what's happening. We get self-educated and learn what's going us around us which gives us a sense of security. The newspaper is a source for social interaction as it gives us something to talk about enabling us to connect with families, friends and society.
In my research, I found out that local newspaper have specific conventions like: reporting on local news, events, advertising local businesses, colleges and schools open days and so on. They also use coloured and high mega pixel images. I also found out that all the newspaper I research had mastheads, logo, dateline, headline, adverts and photographs with caption.
